TALLAHASSEE, Fla.–The Virginia softball team dropped a doubleheader at No. 10 Florida State, 9-1 and 8-0, Saturday (April 18) at JoAnne Graf Field. With the losses, the Cavaliers fell to 15-35 (4-16 ACC), while the Seminoles improved to 36-11 (16-3 ACC).
In the first game, Florida State scored five runs in the sixth inning to win the game, 9-1. The Seminoles finished the game off on a three-run triple by Victoria East.
The Cavaliers’ lone run came in the fifth inning when freshman Allison Davis (Oak Hill, Va.) scored on a Seminole error.
Freshman Alex Formby (Orange, Calif.) threw a complete game allowing nine runs (six earned) in 5.1 innings with two strikeouts in the loss (3-12). Lacey Waldrop (23-5) pitched a complete game with five strikeouts to earn the win for FSU.
In the second game, the Seminoles scored six runs in the fifth inning to win, 8-0. Junior Aimee Chapdelaine (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) fell to 4-3 on the season, allowing eight runs (six earned) in 4.2 innings with two strikeouts.
Jessica Burroughs (13-5) allowed one hit with 12 strikeouts in the shutout for FSU.
The two teams will conclude the series Sunday (April 19) with a scheduled first pitch of 10 a.m.
