UVa Ends Regular Season with Third-Place Finish at Yale

New Haven, Conn. – The 23rd-ranked Virginia men’s golf wrapped up its regular season with a third-place finish at the 14-team Yale Spring Invitational. The Cavaliers shot five-over 285 on Sunday for a 54-hole total of 14-over 854. Wake Forest took top honors at 15-under 825 and Clemson was second at 853.

Leading Virginia was junior Kyle Kochevar (Glen Ellyn, Ill.), who posted the best finish, tournament score and single-round total of his career. Kochevar was sixth overall at even par 210. His opening round 69 was his low 18-hole total as a collegiate. He followed that up with scores of 70 and 71.

Freshman Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) also produced a top-10 finish for the Hoos. He was ninth at 2-over 212. He led UVa during the final round with a 1-under 69.

Sophomore Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) and senior Ji Soo Park (Clifton, Va.) tied for 30th at 9-over 219. Park shot 74 Sunday while Bard finished with a 77. Sophomore Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) rounded out UVa’s scoring by finishing 41st at 222. He was a counter Sunday with a score of 1-over 71.

Wake Forest’s Davis Womble took medalist honors at 6-under 204 as the Demon Deacons swept the top four spots in stroke play.

The Cavaliers will compete at the ACC Championships that run Friday through Sunday at the Old North-South Club in New London, N.C.

UVa played the Yale Spring Invitational without All-American Denny McCarthy, who was sidelined by illness.
