Virginia Drops Doubleheader at Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y.–The Virginia softball team dropped a doubleheader at Syracuse, 7-4 and 14-9, Saturday afternoon (April 25) at Skytop Softball Stadium.
In the first game, the Orange (19-26, 3-13 ACC) took advantage of a seven-run third inning to go on and win, 7-4.
The Cavaliers (16-39, 4-19) took a 2-0 lead on RBIs from sophomore Kaitlin Fitzgerald (Placentia, Calif.) and freshman Danni Ingraham (Laguna Niguel, Calif.), but Syracuse responded with the seven-run inning, highlighted by a two-run home run by Sydney O’Hara.
Virginia tacked on two runs in the seventh when sophomore Katie Park (Scottsdale, Ariz.) hit a two-run home run, her fifth of the season.
After sophomore Aimee Chapdelaine (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) allowed seven runs in 2.2 innings in the loss (5-5), freshman Alex Formby (Orange, Calif.) did not allow a run in 3.1 innings of relief.
Jocelyn Cater (13-17) threw a complete game with 12 strikeouts and four runs allowed in the win for Syracuse.
In the second game, Syracuse scored six runs in the fifth inning and hit six home runs to go on and win, 14-9.
Freshman Allison Davis (Oak Hill, Va.) and Chapdelaine each hit a pair of doubles, while Ingraham and Fitzgerald each drove in two runs for UVa.
Formby (3-14) took the loss after throwing a complete game, while Lindsey Larkin (2-1) earned the win for Syracuse.
The two teams conclude the season Sunday (April 26) with first pitch scheduled for noon.
