CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-Virginia junior swimmer Leah Smith has been named to the 2015-16 USA Swimming National Team. It is the second-consecutive year Smith has been honored.
Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was named to the team for her efforts in the 400m free and 800m free. She won gold with the U.S. 4x200m free relay at the World Championships in Kazan, Russia, in August and captured gold in the same event as well as the 400m free at the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea, in July.
Swimmers were selected for the USA Swimming National Team based on their times in Olympic events from Jan. 1 through Aug. 10. The top six athletes in each event made the National Team, however, relay lead-offs and time trials were not included.
As a result of their work with Smith, UVa head coach Augie Busch and assistant coach Cory Chitwood have been named 2015-16 USA Swimming National Team Coaches.
