Ritschard, Kwiatkowski Win Singles Draws at UVa Ranked 1+1 Tournament

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.) and sophomore Alexander Ritschard (Zurich, Switzerland) each won their respective singles brackets at the 10th Annual UVa Ranked 1+1 Tournament, held Sept. 18-20 at the Snyder Tennis Center.
Kwiatkowski, No. 8 in the ITA preseason singles rankings and the top seed in the Blue singles draw, defeated third-seeded Joao Monteiro of Virginia Tech 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, in Sunday morning’s championship match.
In the Orange singles draw final, Ritschard, ranked No. 115 in the preseason ITA rankings, defeated unranked Christian Langmo of Miami, 7-5, 6-1, in a battle of unseeded players.
Five other Cavaliers also finished off the tournament by playing a consolation singles match on Sunday morning. In the Orange bracket, senior Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.) defeated second-seeded Piotr Lomacki of Miami, 7-6, 7-6. Senior Jonathan Cornish (London, England) fell 7-6, 6-3 to Wake’s Christian Seraphim. In the blue bracket, junior J.C. Aragone (Yorba Linda, Calif.) won 6-1, 7-6 over North Florida’s Yannick Zuem. Sophomore Henrik Wiersholm (Kirkland, Wash.) fell 7-5, 6-3 to fourth-seeded Jonathan Ho of Wake Forest. Redshirt junior Harrison Richmond (Pawley’s Island, S.C.) dropped a 6-4, 6-4 match against UNF’s Julian Bradley.
With Wiersholm and Aragone winning the Orange doubles bracket championship match on Saturday, Cavalier players won three of the four brackets contested at the tournament.
