PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — It was a successful day on the court for the Virginia women’s tennis team as seniors Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) and Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) went undefeated in action at the Riviera ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday.
Nauta picked up a solid result in the opening round of play on Tuesday, defeating Daneika Borthwick of Florida State 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the second round matchup. In her second match of the day, Nauta defeated Kaitlyn McCarthy of Duke 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 to advance to Wednesday’s final round.
Virginia’s Nauta will face Valeria Salazar Garza of Syracuse in the finals with a chance to advance to the main draw of the event on the line.
In doubles play, the pairing of Nauta and Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) defeated the No. 25 ranked team of Caroline Doyle and Melissa Lord of Stanford by a score of 8-6. The pairing from Stanford was the fourth seed in the qualifying round of play.
Nauta and Collins will take the court again in doubles action at 10 a.m. PT for the first of two possible rounds of competition on Wednesday. Collins will begin singles competition on Thursday when the main draw of the event begins. Senior Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) will also be competing in the event in singles.
