Bard in Third Place After 36 Holes at U.S. Collegiate

Alpharetta, Ga. – The 22nd-ranked Virginia men’s golf team is tied for seventh place after 36 holes of play at the U.S. Collegiate Championships at the Golf Club of Atlanta. The Cavaliers shot 10-over 298 Saturday for a two-day total of 5-over 581. Wake Forest leads the 17-team field at 569.
Virginia junior Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) is in third-place entering Sunday’s final round. Bard shot even par 72 on Saturday and stands at 6-under 138. He is one shot behind Wake Forest’s Cameron Young and trails tournament leader Will Long of Auburn by two strokes.
Sophomore Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) leads the other UVA players in 35th place at 3-over 147. Senior Nick McLaughlin (New Castle, N.H.) is in 42nd place at 148 and junior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) is one shot behind him in 50th position. Freshman Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) is in 58th place at 150.
UVA will tee off starting at 11:30 a.m. during Sunday’s final round. The Hoos will be paired with Oklahoma and Texas. Live scoring of the tournament is online at Golfstat.com.
