Bard Fires 67 to Lead UVA During Second Round of Kiawah Classic

Kiawah Island, S.C. – The 22nd-ranked Virginia men’s golf team stayed in second place after Monday’s second round of play at the Kiawah Classic in Kiawah Island, S.C. The Cavaliers shot 6-under 282 for a 36-hole total of 5-under 571. Charleston Southern remains the tournament leader at 10-under 566. Duke and Augusta are tied for third place, four strokes behind UVA.

The Cavaliers were led in the second round by the 5-under 67 from senior Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.). He had six birdies and just one bogey during his round to finish the day in fifth place at 4-under 140. Freshman Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) posted a 2-under 70 to stay in ninth place at 3-under 141.

UVA junior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) and sophomore Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) are tied for 23rd at 1-over 145 while senior Nick McLaughlin (New Castle, N.H.) is in 32nd place at 147.

Augusta’s Robin Petersson leads the field at 10-under 134 after shooting 6-under 66 on Monday.

Tuesday’s final round gets underway with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The tournament is UVA’s final event of the fall.
