CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-The Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams host the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships Friday (Nov. 13) at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va.
The women’s 6K race is set to begin at noon, while the men’s 10K contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. Live results will be available at VirginiaSports.com. Admission to the meet is free, but there is a $5 parking fee.
The top-two teams and top-four individuals at each of the nine regional meets will automatically advance to the NCAA Championships to be held in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday, Nov. 21. Thirteen teams will also earn at-large bids to be announced on Saturday, Nov. 14.
The No. 6 Cavalier women come into the meet as the highest-ranked team in the region, ahead of No. 8 NC State, No. 22 William & Mary and No. 28 North Carolina. UVA won the ACC Championship in its last meet Oct. 30 in Tallahassee, Fla. The Cavaliers are looking for their fourth regional title in six years and last captured the crown in 2013, the last time Panorama Farms hosted the regional.
The No. 12 Virginia men are one of five teams nationally ranked, including No. 10 NC State, No. 13 Furman, No. 18 Virginia Tech and No. 26 Eastern Kentucky. In their last meet, the Cavaliers placed third at the ACC Championships. UVA is the defending regional champion and is looking for its third regional title in four seasons.
Panorama Farms, located in Earlysville in northern Albemarle County, has been the home course of the Cavaliers since 2001. Friday’s meet marks the fifth collegiate championship event on the course as it also hosted the 2006, 2007 and 2014 ACC Championships as well as the 2013 NCAA Southeast Regional. This is the first of three-consecutive years Panorama Farms will host the regional.
