Virginia falls to 15-10 (5-7 ACC). No. 7 Florida State improved to 23-3 (10-2 ACC)

It was the Cavaliers’ annual Play4Kay game. The players will be wearing special pink jerseys and all fans were encouraged to wear pink to the game in support of breast cancer awareness. It was the lone Pink Game of the season for Virginia. They do not play in another on the road this year.

Junior guard Faith Randolph (Derwood, Md.) missed the game because of a foot injury. It was the first time in her collegiate career she did not appear in a game

Breyana Mason opened the game with a three, the first of six hit by the Cavaliers in the first half. UVa ended the game 8-of-19 (42.1 percent) from three, the 8th time this year the squad shot 40 percent or better from long range.

Sarah Imovbioh was called for her second foul with 16:16 left in the first half. She only played four minutes in the half, with 2 pts and zero rebounds. Imovbioh and fellow starting forward Lauren Moses both ended the game with four fouls, combining for nine points and two rebounds.

Both teams had extended scoring droughts in the first half, with UVa going 5:58 without a score and FSU going 5:57.

In FSU’s 10-0 first-half run, the Seminoles scored eight of those points in a 45 second span.

Virginia cut the once 12-point deficit (26-14, 6:02 1st half) to four on four occasions, down to two twice and then got it to one point, 51-50, on a free throw by Syndey Umeri with 7:23 left in the game.

The Seminoles outscored the Cavaliers 14-6 in the final six minutes to close out the game.

Venson was 4-of-5 from three-point range in the first half. She made her first attempt in the second half, starting the game 5-of-6 from three. She finished 5-of-9. She did not take a two-point shot in the game.

In her first career start, Aliyah Huland El scored a career-high 14 points, going 5-of-9 from the field.

Sydney Umeri played 34 minutes, scoring seven points with five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal.

Florida State is second in the nation with a +13.4 rebounding margin. The outrebounded the Cavaliers 33-21 (+12) with 14 offensive rebounds to Virginia’s three.

This was the last of three-straight games for Virginia against top-12 opponents. UVa is 0-5 this season against ranked teams including Thursday’s 71-45 loss to No. 11 Duke. Virginia’s last win over a ranked team was the 86-72 victory over No. 6 Maryland last season at John Paul Jones Arena.

Virginia will travel to Pittsburgh, playing the Panthers (16-8, 6-5 ACC) on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live online on ESPN3. The Cavaliers return home on Sunday, Feb. 22, hosting Virginia Tech at 1 p.m.
