Post Game Notes vs Miami

Virginia fell to 17-13, 7-9 ACC. Miami improved to 19-11, 8-8 ACC.

Miami advance to face top-seeded Notre Dame (28-2, 15-1 ACC) on Friday, March 6 at 2 p.m. in the ACC Quarterfinals.

Virginia opened the second half on a 6-0 scoring run, taking advantage of Miami starting the half 0-of-9 from the field. Virginia had 2-of-16 stretch, which included a span of seven-straight misses, that Miami used to build its eight-point lead, 49-40, with 7:43 minutes left in the game.

Faith Randolph became 31st member of UVa’s 1,000-point club when she hit a jumper with 4:06 remaining in the first half. Sarah Imovbioh scored her 1,000th career point with 4:06 remaining in the first half of the Louisville game.

Randolph finished the game with six points and seven rebounds.

Mikayla Venson hit two three-pointers, setting the Virginia freshman record of made-threes in a season with 58, passing the old mark set by Tora Suber in 1994.

Venson finished the game with 11 points, her sixth-straight game finishing with double-digit points.

Virginia shot 37.5 percent in the first half (12-of-32) and 26.5 percent in the second half (9-of-34).

The two teams were tied in rebounding at 40. Lauren Moses paced the Cavaliers with 8.

Sydney Umeri had six rebounds with three assists.

This is the second time that Virginia has been the No. 9 seed in the ACC Tournament. In 2006, the Cavaliers defeated 8-seed Boston College, 83-72, before falling to No. 1 UNC 82-56.

The Cavaliers are now 0-2 in the second round games.

This was the first-ever meeting between Miami and Virginia in the ACC Tournament.

Virginia holds an 8-7 edge in the all-time series, but Miami is 6-1 in the last seven meetings.
