CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – It took a rally in singles play, but the Cavaliers were up to the challenge as No. 7 Virginia (1-0, 1-0 ACC) picked up a 4-3 win at No. 49 Boston College (0-1, 0-1 ACC) on Sunday.
After dropping the doubles point, the Cavaliers rallied in singles play to pick up the 4-3 win over the Eagles and improve to 19-0 all-time against Boston College.
Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Skylar Morton (Bethesda, Md.), Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) and Victoria Olivarez (Virginia Beach, Va.) picked up wins in singles play to push Virginia to the win.
No. 4 Collins picked up the win in the only matchup of ranked foes in the match with her straight-set victory over No. 47 Lexi Borr.
The Golden Eagles grabbed the doubles point, picking up victories on courts two and three to take the 1-0 lead in the match. The pairing of Collins and Kelley posted a 6-1 win on court one over Borr and Jackie Urbinati. On court two, the pairing of Elbaba and Morton fell in a tiebreak to Asyia Dair and Jenny Ren, 7-6 (9). The Eagles posted a win on court three with Emily Safron and Katya Vasilyev defeating Nauta and Olivarez 6-0.
Virginia will return to action this weekend, hosting competition in the ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers will face BYU at 1:30 p.m. Friday (Jan. 22) following a morning matchup between No. 55 Columbia and No. 66 Maryland at 10 a.m. Play will continue on Saturday (Jan. 23) with a consolation match at 10 a.m. and a finals match at 1:30 p.m.
