UVA in 8th Place at Burns Intercollegiate After 36 Holes

Kaua’i, Hawaii – The 14th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team improved on its first round score by seven strokes to move into a three-way tie for eighth place at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Kaua’i, Hawaii. The Cavaliers shot 1-over 289 during Thursday’s second round for a 36-hole total of 9-over 585.

Texas continues to lead the 16-team field at 16-under 560. California, which has won the tournament for the past five years, is in second place at 567.

Sophomore Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) tops UVA’s scoring after two rounds at even par 144. He posted a second-round score of 2-under 70 to move up to 18th place. Freshman Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) is in 32nd place at 147 after carding a second round score of 74.

Junior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.), UVA’s first-round leader, dropped back to 37th place after shooting 78. His two-day total stands at 148. Junior Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) rebounded from an opening-round 79 by shooting 70 to move up to 43rd place at 149. Kyle Kochevar is in 92nd place at 158. He shot 75 during Thursday’s play.

California’s K.K. Limbhasut used a second-round 66 to move into first place on the individual leaderboard at 7-under 137.

The 54-hole tournament at Wailua Golf Course concludes Friday.
