Coughlin Remains in 1st Place at Rucker Intercollegiate

Hilton Head, S.C. – The Virginia women’s golf team remained in second place following Saturday’s second round of play at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C. Senior Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, Va.) continues to lead UVA and will enter Sunday’s final round tied for first place.
Virginia shot 14-over 298 during Saturday’s play for a two-day total of 11-over 579. The Cavaliers remained three shots behind No. 4 Alabama. The Crimson Tide also shot 298 during the second round and lead the 17-team field at 8-over 576. Vanderbilt and No. 10 Oklahoma State are tied for third at 582.
After shooting 4-under 67 on Friday, Coughlin posted a score of 1-over 72 on Saturday. She had three bogeys on her front nine but rallied with back-to-back birdies on No. 12 and 13 before finishing out with five consecutive pars.
She shares the 36-hole lead with Vanderbilt’s Alexandra Farnsworth at 3-under 139. A group of four players are tied for third place at 141.
Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill.) enters the final round just outside of the top-10. She is in 11th plae at 3-over 145 after shooting 76 on Saturday. Freshman Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) is in 23rd place at 147 while junior Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) is in 36th place at 148. Both of those players shot 4-over 75 during the second round. Freshman Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) is in 47th place at 150. She carded a round of 76 on Saturday.
UVA, Alabama and Oklahoma State will play together starting at 9:30 a.m. from the first tee. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
