Cavalier Women Earn Sweep at UVA Quad

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-The Virginia women’s track and field team broke two school records on the way to sweeping the UVA Quad Friday (April 8) at Lannigan Field.
In double-dual scoring, the Cavaliers defeated Columbia, 82-24, Maryland, 77-42 and Penn, 77-43.
“I’m very proud of how we competed this evening, going 3-0 with two school records and a bunch of NCAA-qualifying times,” UVA director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer said. “We need to continue to build on these successes and get ready for the next one.”
Sophomore Bridget Guy (Greensburg, Pa.) broke the school record in the pole vault with a mark of 4.12m (13′ 6.25″), while sophomore Katie Freix (Chantilly, Va.) was second with a height of 3.52m (11′ 6.5″).
In the shot put, junior Christine Bohan (Avon Lake, Ohio) won with a Virginia-record mark of 16.87m (55′ 4.25″).
The 4×100-meter relay team of juniors Heather Smith (Chesapeake, Va.) and Andrea Wright (Chesapeake, Va.), senior Peyton Chaney (Belleville, Ill.) and junior Tori McKenzie (Chatham, Va.) won in a time of 45.77.
Chaney claimed the 200 meters in 23.50, which ranks fourth all-time on UVA’s all-time list and also won the 100 meters with a time of 11.53 (wind aided).
Junior Chimere Ezumah (Gardena, Calif.) won the 400 meters in 56.43. In the 100m hurdles, freshman Ciara Leonard (Elkins Park, Pa.) crossed the line first in 13.85 (wind aided).
Redshirt freshman Mia Barron (Minnetonka, Minn.) won the long jump with a leap of 5.90m (19′ 4.25″).
Sophomore Carter Green (Ashland, Pa.) placed second in the discus throw with a PR of 48.50m (159′ 1″), which ranks 10th on UVA’s all-time list.
The Cavaliers host the Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invitational Saturday (April 9) at 2 p.m. at Lannigan Field. Admission is free to the public.
