UVA Stands Third After 36 Holes at Wolfpack Intercollegiate

Raleigh, N.C. – The No. 21 Virginia men’s golf team is in third place following the first 36 holes of play at NC State’s Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate in Raleigh, N.C. The Cavaliers turned in rounds of +6, 290 and -6, 278 on the par-71 Lonnie Poole Golf Course for a first day total of even par 568.
Host NC State jumped out to a huge first-day lead, shooting 24-under 544 on their home course. South Florida is second at 553.
Virginia was led by junior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) who had scores of 68 and 71 to finish the day in ninth place at 3-under 139. Freshman Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) is in 13th position at 143 with scores of 76 and 67. Walsh’s second round score was a career best.
Junior Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) and freshman Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) are tied for 16th at 2-over 144. They both shot 74 and 70. Sophomore Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) is in 30th position at 147
Sophomore Conner Messick (Oak Hill, Va.) and senior Kyle Kochevar (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) are also playing in the field as individuals. Messick is in 37th place at 148 while Kochevar is 48th at 149.
NC State’s David Cooke leads the field at 13-under 129. He shot 9-under 62 during the first round.
The tournament wraps up Sunday with 18 holes of play. UVA will play with NC State and South Florida. They will start their rounds at 9:30 a.m. Live scoring of the tournament is online at Golfstat.com.
