Cavaliers Finish Third at Wolfpack Intercollegiate

Raleigh, N.C. – The No. 21 Virginia men’s golf team wrapped up its regular season with a third-place finish at NC State’s Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate in Raleigh, N.C. The Cavaliers shot 1-under 283 during Sunday’s final round for a final score of 851. NC State won the event at 831 followed by South Florida at 839.

UVA was led by a pair of eighth place finishes from juniors Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.). They both shot 3-under 210. Bard had the team’s best final round score, shooting 5-under 66 at the par-71 Lonnie Poole Golf Course. Stanger finished with a 71.

Virginia freshman Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) placed 11th at 212 after carding a 69 on Sunday. Freshman Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) was 27th at 221 while sophomore Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) was 44th at 225.

UVA also had two individual competitors in the field. Senior Kyle Kochevar (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) was 65th at 229 and sophomore Connor Messick (Oak Hill, Va.) placed 79th at 235.

NC State’s David Cooke won the tournament at 15-under 198.

The Cavaliers will compete at the ACC Championships April 22-24 in New London, N.C.
