UVA Golfers Enter Final Round of ACCs in Fourth Place

New London, N.C. – After 36 holes of play, the No. 24 Virginia men’s golf team is tied for fourth place at the ACC Championships at the Old North State Club in New London, N.C. The Cavaliers shot even par 288 on Saturday and have a two-day total of 1-under 575. Georgia Tech shares fourth place with UVA.
No. 12 Clemson leads the field at 19-under 557 while No. 11 Wake Forest is second at 565. Florida State, the ACC’s top-ranked team at No. 7 in the Golfstat standings, is in third place at 571.
Junior Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) had UVA’s best second-round score, shooting 2-under 70. Bard played the front nine at even par and used an eagle on the par-5 11th hole to help climb several spots on the leaderboard. He is in sixth place at 3-under 141.
Junior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) posted a score of even par 72 and enters the final round in 11th place at 2-under 142. Freshman Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) is in 18th position at 144 after shooting 71 on Saturday and classmate Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) is 38th at 149. Sophomore Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) is 42nd at 150. Poole carded a 76 in the second round while Walker shot 75.
Wake Forest’s Davis Womble enters Sundays’ final day with a one-stroke lead in the race for medalist honors at 7-under 137. A trio of Clemson players occupy the next three positions on the leaderboard.
UVa will be paired with Georgia Tech and Duke during the final round and will tee off starting at 8:30 a.m. from the first tee. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.

The ACC Championships signifies the men’s golf matchup between Virginia and Virginia Tech in the Commonwealth Clash, sponsored by Virginia529, the official college savings plan of University of Virginia Athletics. One point is at stake in the all-sports rivalry series between the two schools. UVA has clinched this year’s championship and currently leads the 2015-16 point standings 11 to 5. Virginia Tech finished the second round of the ACC Championships in 12th place at 28-over 604.
