RADFORD, Va.-Virginia sophomore Bridget Guy broke the school record in the pole vault as the UVA women’s track and field team finished action on the first day of the Highlander Invitational at Cupp Stadium Friday (April 29) in Radford, Va.

Guy (Greensburg, Pa.) set a new school record in the pole vault with a height of 4.23m (13′ 10.5″). Guy now ranks 17th in the NCAA with that height. Sophomore Katie Freix (Chantilly, Va.) cleared a height of 3.63m (11′ 11″).

Junior Caitlin Mautz (Doylestown, Pa.) won the javelin with a mark of 42.15m (138′ 3″).

“We had a good week of practice and great weather conditions today that led to multiple personal records,” UVA assistant coach Mario Wilson said. “It is good to see all of the student-athletes’ hard work is paying off and that they are starting to see rewards for their efforts.”

The action continues Saturday at 11 a.m.
