TULSA, Okla. – Virginia men’s tennis junior Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.) was eliminated from NCAA Singles Championship with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 loss to No. 5 seed Cameron Norrie of TCU in the quarterfinals on Saturday (May 28) at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
Kwiatkowski won the opening set 6-4 and then dropped his second set, 6-2, the first set he had lost during the Championship. Norrie closed out the victory winning the third set 6-1.
Kwiatkowski, who earned his second-straight All-American status by advancing to yesterday’s Round of 16 match, came up shy of advancing to the semifinals for the second-straight year. Kwiatkowski had been the lone Cavalier remaining in the tournament after both doubles teams lost in the first round and senior Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.) fell in the Round of 16.
Kwiatkowski, who was named the Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament after going 5-0 in singles during the team championship, finishes the year with a 39-8 record in singles.
