Recap | Final Stats

Head coach Joanne Boyle
Opening Statement:
“I thought we stayed aggressive early. We got a little flat in the second, then got back to being aggressive. Breyana [Mason] did a great job. Mikayla [Venson] did a great job turning the corners and really stepped up at the point. They both stepped up for us today. We were able to use other people and they hit timely shots as well.”

On Mikayla Venson’s play:
“It was huge for us today. When she didn’t get to the rim, she did a great job with her mid-range pull-up. She didn’t try to go too deep and she was just money. She was really confident out there and that took pressure off of everyone else, so I’m just really happy for her.”

On defensive play:
“We played some zone and they weren’t hitting shots so we were able to get some easy run-outs that settled us down a little bit. Anytime you are making easy baskets it makes the harder ones come easier.”

On Sydney Umeri:
“I thought Sydney did a great job, not just on the stat sheet but on the other things that mattered. I thought she did a great job not letting them get second chance points so I was happy. She did a really good job for us.”

On No. 16 Florida State
“They are pretty deep, very well coached. They are athletic, they will press you and play some zone. They have some great post-players and rebounders. It will be tough, we have to come out ready to play on Thursday.”

Junior Guard Breyana Mason
On playing well all-around:
“I think we were attacking, we were a lot more confident across the board. The coaches told us to shoot our shots and I think we did that today.”

On playing well as a team:
“Definitely today we were clicking offensively and defensively. We just had a good connection on the court, knowing where we were all going to be.”

On getting offense going:
“In practice the last couple of days Coach Boyle has been trying to break down the offense for us so we knew what we want out of the offense, and also being aggressive by getting in the paint and kicking the ball out.”

On No. 16 Florida State:
“Florida State is a very good team. They are well rounded from the perimeter and in the inside. We have to be road warriors to build our resume for the NCAA Tournament and Florida State would be a good win for us.”
