Recap | Final Stats

Head Coach Joanne Boyle
Opening statement:
“I felt like we were just trying to battle and I thought we hung in there until mid-way through the third quarter, then Florida State just took over. We ended up not being able to score and it was on the rebounds that created a lot of transition for them.”

On foul trouble:
“We were getting called and they kept going to the line and it just becomes demoralizing. At the other end of the floor, we just couldn’t score and that created some transition for them so all of the things we talked about were hurting us. I felt like we really battled there through the first half and part of the third, then we just ran out of gas because we could not get the boards.”

On offensive struggles:
“We just didn’t have a flow. I thought we were tired and just started shooting shots instead of trying to get to the rim. When they went to the zone we stopped scoring and that really hurt us. We were just setting for the jump-shot and missing and they would rebound and take it in transition.”

On working on rebounding:
“We have just been doing breakdown drills, competitive three-on-one rebounding. It has to sink in because we have to be able to do it. We try to put them in situations in practice to make them really have to fight.”

On Pitt game Sunday:
“We had a really tough game against them at their place last year. We know we have to take care of our home court and understand the importance of this game, positioning ourselves moving forward. We have to get back and start working on them because we want to protect our home floor.”

Junior Guard Breyana Mason
On how Florida State was able to pull away:
“I think they were able to get out in transition a little bit more than in the first half. Obviously that is something that they like to do. They got a lot of offensive rebounds that led to second chance opportunities that led to fouls on us so it put them on the free throw line.”

On foul trouble:
“It definitely had an impact on us. We were fighting underneath the basket trying to get some rebounds and the calls just didn’t go our way. The outcome didn’t end up the way we wanted, but Lauren (Moses), Moné (Jones), a lot of our posts and some of our guards really battled even though the outcome didn’t show it.”

On offense:
“We were just a little stagnant. Also with our foul trouble, Aliyah (Huland El) was on the bench so we had to move Moné to the three and that is not her normal position so it put us out of place a little bit. We weren’t able to get some inside touches, moving the ball inside-out really killed us again.”

On what to take away from this game for Sunday:
“I think there is always something to learn from each game whether you win or lose, so we will definitely learn from this game and move on. We will see what we have to do against Pitt and hopefully get a win at home on Sunday.”
