STILLWATER, Okla. – Former Virginia women’s tennis player and two-time NCAA singles champion Danielle Collins claimed the Stillwater Pro Tennis Classic on Sunday with a win over Caroline Dolehide.
Collins held a 1-0 lead on Dolehide when she retired from the match, giving the former Cavalier the win.
Collins advanced with four straight wins to get to Sunday’s final. She defeated Victoria Bosio of Argentina 6-3, 6-2 in the first round before downing seventh-seeded Ellie Halbauer of the United States 7-6 (6), 6-4 in the second round.
A 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win over Canada’s Aleksandra Wozniak in the quarterfinals pushed Collins into the semifinals where she defeated Beygelzimer of Ukraine on Saturday and set up the Sunday final with Dolehide.
