Mercer Advances To ITA Atlantic Regional Quarterfinals

NORFOLK, Va. – Junior Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.V.) led the Virginia women’s tennis team on Sunday at the ITA Atlantic Regional, picking up a pair of wins to advance to the quarterfinal round of play. Mercer will take the court again at 9:30 a.m. on Monday.

The event is being played at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center at Old Dominion.

The winners of the singles and doubles brackets at the ITA Atlantic Regional earn automatic berths in the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate played at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. in November.

Four Cavaliers advanced to the round of 16 in singles with Rosie Johanson (Abottsford, British Columbia), Meghan Kelley (Falmouth, Maine), Teodora Radosavljevic (Belgrade, Serbia) all winning their first match of the afternoon along with Mercer. Johanson, Kelley and Radosavljevic all split their matches on the day, dropping the second match of the day.

Camille Favero (Sacramento, Calif.) also advanced in the back draw of singles with a win on Sunday.
