Oct. 18, 2016
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia and Cornell men’s lacrosse teams will play their 2017 regular season game against each other in the fourth-annual Pacific Coast Shootout in Costa Mesa, Calif., on Sat., March 11. The game will be contested at LeBard Stadium on the campus Orange Coast College. Faceoff is set for 9 p.m. ET.
“The Pacific Coast Shootout has quickly become known as an outstanding and unique opportunity to expose our program to all the West Coast has to offer,” said Virginia men’s lacrosse head coach Lars Tiffany. “The icing on the cake is the electric atmosphere and great fan attendance that surrounds this game every year. The University of Virginia is excited and very grateful to be a part of the Shootout.”
The Pacific Coast Shootout has had at least one ACC team play in each of its previous three games. UVA becomes the third different ACC team to play in the Shootout. Notre Dame fell to Denver in 2014 (10-7) and beat Maryland in 2016 (9-4). North Carolina fell to Maryland in 2015 (10-8).
The 2017 Shootout marks the ninth-straight season the Big Red and Cavaliers have faced off. In 2016, Cornell upset Virginia 14-10 in Ithaca. UVA holds a 10-6 advantage all-time against Cornell.
The Pacific Coast Shootout was established in 2014 in an effort to bring major Division I lacrosse to the West Coast.
The remainder of the 2017 men’s lacrosse schedule will be announced at a later date.
