CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams open the 2017 indoor season at the Virginia Tech Invitational Friday and Saturday (Jan. 13-14) at the Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va. Action begins Friday at 5 p.m. and continues Saturday at 11 a.m.

The Cavalier men have been ranked No. 19 in the opening U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national rankings. The Cavaliers are scheduled to compete against student-athletes from 12 other schools, including ACC foes Miami, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. Miami’s women are ranked No. 14, while Virginia Tech’s men are tabbed No. 16.

The Cavaliers are scheduled to have 32 student-athletes compete, mostly in sprint and field events. Eleven student-athletes are set to make their Virginia debuts, including Thomas Amabile, Jack Claiborne, Nace Plesko, Jordan Scott, Sam Teller, Noah Toney and Sam Young on the men’s side and Tedi DeMaria, Anna Jefferson, Kelly McKee and Alexis Woodley on the women’s side.

Virginia returns to action Jan. 21 for the Notre Dame Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind.
