UVA Finishes First Day Action at Virginia Tech Invitational

BLACKSBURG, Va.-The Virginia track and field teams concluded action on the first day of the Virginia Tech Invitational Friday (Jan. 13) at the Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va.
In the women’s 60m hurdles prelims, sophomore Ciara Leonard (Elkins Park, Pa.) moved up to seventh on UVA’s all-time list with a time of 8.67, while freshman Alexis Woodley (Chesapeake, Va.) is ninth on the list with an 8.70 in her collegiate debut, which also ranks third on UVA’s freshman list. In the finals, Leonard finished seventh in 8.70, while senior Heather Smith (Chesapeake, Va.) was eighth in 8.82.
In the women’s 60 meters, senior Tori McKenzie (Chatham, Va.) placed fourth in the final in 7.60, while freshman Anna Jefferson (Warren, Mich.) was seventh in 7.69. Jefferson’s 7.64 in the prelims ranks fourth on UVA’s freshman list. Jefferson also posted a time of 39.63 in the 300 meters which ranks third on the Cavaliers’ freshman list.
Making her UVA debut, sophomore Kelly McKee (Lenexa, Kan.) finished third in the women’s long jump with a distance of 5.62m (18′ 5.25″), while redshirt sophomore Mia Barron (Minnetonka, Minn.) was fourth at 5.58m (18′ 3.75″).
Senior Chimere Ezumah (Gardena, Calif.) finished third in the women’s 500 meters in 1:16.45.
Three Cavalier men made the final of the 60m hurdles with sophomore Emmanuel Jackson (Raleigh, N.C.) finishing third in 8.22. Sophomores Jack Lint (Westerville, Ohio) and Charles Bowman (Harrisburg, Pa.) placed fifth (8.26) and seventh (8.28), respectively.
The second day of the meet begins Saturday at 11 a.m.
