Efekoro's Shot Put Highlights No. 4 UVA Men's Day at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va.-A top-10 NCAA mark and a school record highlighted the No. 4 Virginia men’s track and field team’s action at the Liberty Elite Invitational Saturday (Feb. 11) at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex in Lynchburg, Va.

Junior Oghenakpobo Efekoro (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished second in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 19.17m (62′ 10.75″), which ranks second on UVA’s all-time list and eighth in the country this year.

“Pobo is continuing to be diligent both in training and outside of it,” UVA throws coach Martin Maric said. “With such dedication, it is hard not to progress. We still have a few technical aspects to improve on before ACCs and NCAAs, but it is good to see him following the footsteps of his teammate Filip (Mihaljevic) in becoming one of the best throwers in the NCAA.”

In the heptathlon, redshirt sophomore Jack Lint (Westerville, Ohio) finished first with a school-record score of 5,385 points. Freshman Jack Claiborne (Johannesburg, South Africa) placed fourth with 4,781 points, which ranks seventh on UVA’s all-time list and fourth on Virginia’s freshman list.

The Cavaliers went 1-2-3 in the 800 meters with junior Kenneth Hagen (Blacksburg, Va.) crossing the line first in 1:52.77, followed by freshman AJ Ernst (Marblehead, Mass.) in 1:52.92 and junior Logan Carrington (Leesburg, Va.) in 1:52.99.

At the Millrose Games in New York, senior Henry Wynne (Westport, Conn.) competed in the prestigious Wanamaker Mile, placing 11th in 4:11.95.
