Gonzales' 72 Leads Hoos at Rucker Intercollegiate

Hilton Head Island, S.C. – The Virginia women’s golf team improved on its first round score at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate by posting a second-round effort that was a 14-shot improvement. UVA shot 22-over 306 Saturday at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C., and the Cavaliers’ two-round total stands at 626. UVA remained in 17th place following the second round.

No. 18 Duke and No. 5 Alabama share the overall lead at 573.

For the second consecutive day, sophomore Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) led UVA in scoring. She shot 1-over 72 and moved up to 22nd place at 147. Sophomore Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) shot 6-over 77 and moved to 65th place at 155. Freshman Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) posted a second-round score of 78 and is in 83rd place at 162.

Junior Maho Hayakawa (Lake Mary, Fla.) is in 86th place at 163 and while sophomore Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) is 87th at 164. Hayakawa carded a second-round score of 79 while Patrick shot 81. Ju Hee Bae (Chantilly, Va.) is in 89th place at 169 while competing as an individual.

The tournament wraps up Sunday.
