RALEIGH, N.C. – N.C. State (11-16, 5-1 ACC) scored early and often in 9-1 victory over Virginia (10-16, 2-7 ACC). The Wolfpack tallied the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning to complete a three-game, weekend sweep at Dail Softball Stadium.

N.C. State used a first inning rally of three runs and then scored five more in the third inning to build an insurmountable lead. Jade Caraway ended the game in the fifth inning with an RBI single that scored Macualey Pricket. The Wolfpack compiled a season-high, 16 hits and have now won five-straight against Virginia.

The lone Virginia run came in the top of the second when Ashlee Davis (Gilbert, Ariz.) drove in her fifth run of the year. The run-scoring hit plated Madison Labshere (El Cajon, Calif.) who reached earlier in the frame on a N.C. State throwing error. Ashlee Davis recorded her first multi-hit game of her career, finishing the day 2-for-2.

Junior Allison Davis (Oak Hill, Va.) completed a successful weekend in Raleigh with a 1-for-3 effort in Sunday’s game. She finished the series 7-for-11 with two doubles, a triple and two RBIs. She currently leads the team with a .387 batting average and matched a career-high by hitting safely in her seventh-straight game.

N.C. State’s five-run rally in the third inning was powered by two home runs, a two-run shot by Cheyanne Balzer and then a three-run job from Tyler Ross. It marks only the third time this season a Virginia opponent has scored five or more runs in a single inning. For Ross, it was her second home run in as many days. N.C. State hit five balls out of the park in the three-game series.

The Cavaliers will return home for a midweek doubleheader against Towson. The first game of twin bill is scheduled for 4 p.m. at The Park.
