CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Liberty (28-16) continued its dominance in the circle with a 3-0 shutout of Virginia (14-28) in the second game of a home-and-home midweek series. The Flames have now blanked five-straight opponents.
Liberty starting pitcher Kenzie Friesen tossed a complete game and allowed just two Virginia hits over seven innings. She issued four walks and struck out one batter in her 11th win of the season.
After holding the Flames hitless over the first three innings, Erika Osherow (Darien, Conn.) allowed two unearned runs in the top of the fourth to break the scoreless tie. The two runs came in on a two-out single by Deidra See and both were not charged to Osherow due to an earlier Virginia miscue.
Osherow pitched her fourth-consecutive complete game and struck out six batters. She only allowed a walk through the first 11 batters of the game.
Senior Katie Park (Scottsdale, Ariz.) reached base three times including her 44th hit of the season, a single in the bottom of the first inning. She also drew a pair of walks and accounted for three of the six Cavalier base runners on the day. Danni Ingraham (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) collected the other Virginia hit, a single in the bottom of the fourth.
The Cavaliers will play their final home ACC series of the season beginning Friday when they host Georgia Tech. At the conclusion of Sunday’s game, Virginia will honor its six seniors with a ceremony.
