Hoos Open Play at ACC Championships

Pawleys Island, SC – The Virginia women’s golf team is tied for 10th place after the first round of play at the ACC Championships in Pawleys Island, S.C. The Cavaliers shot 16-over 304 at the Reserve Golf Club. Duke, ranked No. 10, leads the field at 4-under 284. No. 19 Miami is second at 285.

UVA was led by senior Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) who shot 2-over 74. She finished the first day of competition in 27th place. Sophomore Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) is 34th with a score of 3-over 75. Freshman Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) is in 43rd place at 77 while sophomore Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) is 47th at 78. Junior Maho Hayakawa (Lake Mary, Fla.) rounded out UVA’s scoring with an 84 in her first ACC Championships appearance. She is in 58th place.

North Carolina’s Bryana Nguyen and Duke’s Leona Maguire lead the field in stroke play. Both players shot 4-under 68.

UVA will start its second round at 8 a.m. from the first tee while paired with Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

The ACC Championships serves as the event in Commonwealth Clash between UVA and Virginia Tech. The Hokies are also tied for 10th place following the first round of play. The highest finisher between the two teams will earn one point in the Commonwealth Clash standings.
