Tanner Scales Named a USILA Scholar All-American

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia men’s lacrosse senior defenseman Tanner Scales has been named a USILA Scholar All-American, becoming the 25th Cavalier to earn the honor from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.
In 1989, the USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III.
Scales (Sr., Denver, Colo.) picked up 38 ground balls and caused 13 turnovers in 2017. He also scored his only career point on an assist at Johns Hopkins. Late last month Scales was selected in the seventh round (56th overall) in the 2017 MLL Draft by his hometown Denver Outlaws. Scales leaves UVA after playing in 59 career games with 53 starts on defense. He picked up 156 career ground balls and caused 75 career turnovers.
