Boston College Postgame Notes

Team

  • Boston College won its second consecutive ACC game for the first time since 2014 as the Eagles won, 41-10, at Virginia Saturday afternoon. It was the first ACC loss of the year for UVA.
  • Boston College even its record at 4-4 overall and improved to 2-3 in the ACC.
  • The last time prior to today BC won back-to-back ACC games was against Wake Forest (23-17) and Virginia Tech (33-31) on Oct. 25 and Nov. 1, 2014.
  • The Eagles scored 40-plus in consecutive ACC games for the first time in school history. The last time BC scored 40 or more points in back-to-back games was against Rutgers (44-14) and Toledo (51-25) in the final two games of the 2002 season.
  • Boston College is 6-0 all-time against Virginia, including a 4-0 mark in ACC play. The Eagles are 2-0 all-time at Scott Stadium.
  • Boston College used a 15-play, 85-yard drive on its opening possession resulting in a 30-yard field goal by junior kicker Colton Lichtenberg. It was the first time this season BC has scored points on its first possession of the game.
  • The Eagles scored on their first four possessions of the game (field goal, touchdown, touchdown, touchdown). It marked the first time since 2015 against Howard that BC scored on its first four possessions.
  • Boston College scored on two plays of 70-plus yards in the first quarter. The 76-yard run by senior Thadd Smith and the 76-yard reception by redshirt freshman Kobay White are the longest scoring plays of the season.
  • Boston College scored 17 points in the first quarter and totaled 256 yards of total offense. It was the most points scored in an ACC game in the first quarter for the Eagles since scoring 21 at NC State on Oct. 4, 2008.
  • Boston College finished with a season-high 331 yards of total offense in the first half. It was the most yardage in a first half for the Eagles since totaling 344 vs. Howard (Sept. 12, 2015).
  • Boston College racked up 512 yards of total offense in back-to-back games for the first time since against Maine and Southern California in 2014. The Eagles finished with 512 yards of total offense against UVA and 555 last week in the win at Louisville.

Offense

  • True freshman running back AJ Dillon made his first career start at running back for the Eagles. The Connecticut native finished with 91 rushing yards on 24 carries.
  • Senior wide receiver Thadd Smith scored on a 76-yard run in the first quarter, the longest rush of his career. It also tied for the longest scoring play of the season for Boston College. Smith’s previous career-long rush was 32 yards earlier this season against Wake Forest (Sept. 9, 2017).
  • Redshirt freshman wide receiver Kobay White scored his first career touchdown on a 76-yard screen pass from redshirt freshman quarterback Anthony Brown in the first quarter. It was the longest reception of White’s career and the longest completion of Brown’s career.
  • Brown finished 19-of-24 passing for a career-high 275 yards. The freshman also threw for a career-high three touchdowns.
  • Brown is the first Boston College player with three passing touchdowns and zero interceptions in a conference game since Quinton Porter in 2003.
  • Junior tight end Tommy Sweeney led BC with four receptions for 55 yards and a career-best two touchdowns.

Defense

  • The defense held Virginia to its fewest points of the season. BC yielded Virginia to just 247 yards of total offense, the fewest amount of yards allowed in a game for the Eagles this season.
  • Junior defensive end Wyatt Ray tied his career high with 1.5 sacks on the day.
  • Junior defensive back Lukas Denis led the Eagles with seven tackles, including four solo stops. He also had one pass breakup.
  • Redshirt freshman linebacker John Lamot recorded his first career interception in the fourth quarter and returned it 40 yards for the first pick-six of the season for the Eagles. It was the first pick-six since Matt Milano against UConn in 2016.
  • Sophomore defensive back Hamp Cheevers recorded his first career interception and returned it 27 yards to the Virginia 20-yard line.

Special Teams

  • Junior Colton Lichtenberg was a perfect 2-for-2 on field goals and has made his last three field goals on the year.
  • Senior Maximillan Schulze-Geisthovel had seven touchbacks on the day.
