CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The Virginia men’s cross country team earned an at-large bid for the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Ky., as released by the NCAA office on Saturday (Nov. 11). Senior Frances Schmiede (Sydney, Australia) received an individual berth and will represent the women’s team on the national stage.

The NCAA Championships will be held on Nov. 18 at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky. The women’s 6,000-meter race will begin at 10:45 a.m., followed by the men’s 10,000-meter race at 11:45 a.m.

The Cavalier men earned an at-large bid after finishing third at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships yesterday, recording the program’s sixth straight NCAA Championships appearance.

Virginia will compete at the E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park for the second time this season, after competing in an 8,000-meter race for the ACC Championships on Oct. 27. The Cavaliers finished fourth with senior Brent Demarest (Charleston, S.C.), sophomore Lachlan Cook (Brisbane, Australia) and senior Chase Weaverling (Darnestown, Md.) earning All-ACC honors.

On the women’s side, Schmiede earned an individual bid after finishing seventh at the regional meet. Schmiede paced the Cavaliers throughout the season, finishing eighth at the ACC Championships and 28th at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational.
