Four Cavaliers Place At Cleveland State Open Saturday

CLEVELAND – Four wrestlers placed to lead Virginia in competition on Saturday (Dec. 16) at the Cleveland State Open hosted by Cleveland State at Woodling Gym.
Freshmen Sam Book (Fairfax, Va.) finished fifth at 125 pounds, while Jake Keating (Naperville, Ill.) finished sixth at 149 pounds. Freshman Brian Kennerly (Drexel Hill, Pa.) finished fourth at heavyweight. Redshirt-sophomore Fred Green (Orting, Wash.) finished fourth at 157 pounds.
“I’m really happy our guys got to get these last matches in before the semester ended,” said Virginia head coach Steve Garland. “They needed the competition. This tournament was a long day, but well worth the trip. Our guys got a ton of matches and any time you can get on the mat to compete, you are getting better whether you win or lose. We feel good about today.”
The group of individuals now heads to Bloomsburg to meet the team for a dual match against the Huskies at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 17). Bloomsburg dropped a dual match to No. 22 Lock Haven on Saturday.
In all, eight wrestlers competed for the Cavaliers at the Cleveland State Open.
