2021 – Named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week (10/4 & 10/18)

AT VIRGINIA
2021 – One of four UVA captains … selected for the 2021 ACC All-Academic team … named to 2021 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society… started all 12 games … finished the season with 32 tackles … was second on the UVA defense with 6.5 tackles for loss … shared team lead with 3.5 sacks … in his hometown of Miami on Sept. 30, established career highs in sacks (2) and tackles for loss (3) in a 30-28 road victory against Miami … in the first quarter he broke through the Miami offensive line and tackled Hurricane running back Cam’Ron Harris in the end zone to give UVA its second safety of the season and an early 9-0 lead in the game… made four tackles from his defensive line position in shutout victory over Duke, the second shutout of the season … also saw looks at both DE and nose tackle and helped limit the ACC’s second-best rushing attack (218 ypg.) to 110 yards on the ground. 2020 – Appeared in all 10 of UVA’s games with nine starts … made two tackles in the season-opening win over Duke … made one stop at No. 1 Clemson … made two tackles against NC State … made three tackles and 1.0 tackles for a loss at Wake Forest … made three tackles and 0.5 TFL at No. 11 Miami … made two stops and recovered a fumble in the win over No. 15 North Carolina … made two tackles and one sack in win over Louisville … made four tackles and a sack against Boston College … made six stops against Virginia Tech … named to 2021 ACC Academic Honor Roll. 2019 – Appeared in all 14 of UVA’s games with nine starts … broke up one pass against Pitt and helped the defense limit the Panthers to 78 rushing yards … made one stop against Florida State … made three stops against Old Dominion … made two stops and one sack at Miami … made one tackle, broke up a pass and recovered a fumble against Duke … made one stop at Louisville … made one stop against Georgia Tech … made 1.0 tackle for loss against Liberty … recorded four tackles against Virginia Tech and his sack in the fourth quarter forced a fumble that Eli Hanback recovered in the end zone for a touchdown to clinch the victory … also recovered a fumble against the Hokies … recorded three tackles and 0.5 a tackle for a loss in the ACC Championship game against Clemson … made two tackles and 1.0 tackle for loss in the Orange Bowl against Florida. 2018– Appeared in the first nine of UVA’s games with five starts … suffered a season-ending injury against Pitt … in the season opener against Richmond he picked up his first career solo sack, which went for a loss of nine yards … made first start of the season against Louisville and made three tackles … made three tackles at NC State … made two tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss against No. 16 Miami … made two tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss at Duke … made three tackles against North Carolina … made four tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss against Pitt. 2017 – Appeared in 11 of UVA’s 13 games with four starts … one of 17 UVA true freshmen to play … made collegiate debut against William & Mary on defense … made first collegiate start against Georgia Tech and made three tackles … made second collegiate start at Miami and made three tackles, including sharing a sack, the first of his career … made five stops against Virginia Tech … made two stops against Navy in the Military Bowl.

HIGH SCHOOL AND PERSONAL
Played defensive tackle, offensive line and long snapper at Gulliver Prep for head coach Earl Sims … first-team All-Dade County … collected 52 tackles, nine sacks and caused eight fumbles as a senior in 2016 … recorded 24 tackles for loss … son of Armando and Yamily Alonso … parents are from Cuba … high school coach, Earl Sims, was a three-year letterwinner for Virginia (1998, 2000-01) at linebacker … a three-star recruit by ESPN.com, 247Sports.com and Scout.com … a two-star recruit by Rivals.com … major is government.
