RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 21 Virginia (14-6, 8-4 ACC) women’s tennis team closed out a weekend road trip on Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 win over No. 38 NC State at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.

With the win, the Cavaliers surpassed last season’s ACC win total and have locked up a winning record in ACC matches this season. Virginia has two more matches remaining in ACC play, hosting Clemson and Wake Forest next weekend.

The Cavaliers won the doubles point and used wins in four singles matches to take the match victory over the Wolfpack. Rosie Johanson (Abbotsford, British Columbia), Chloe Gullickson (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.Va.) and Teodora Radosavljevic (Belgrade, Serbia) provided the singles wins for UVA.

“The team showed a lot of resilience and belief in themselves today against a very good NC State team,” said Virginia head coach Sara O’Leary. “I’m extremely proud of Dora for the focus and toughness she displayed in both doubles and singles. She was an incredible leader all day ad is continuing to get better each week. We look forward to a good week of practice to prepare for two more ACC matches next weekend.”

The teams split doubles matches on courts one and two, with the No. 22 Virginia pairing of Johanson and Meghan Kelley (Falmouth, Maine) taking a 6-3 win over NC State’s No. 27 pairing of Anna Rogers and Claudia Wiktorin. The Cavaliers’ doubles tandem of Radosavljevic and Hunter Bleser (New Braunfels, Texas) clinched the doubles point with a come-from-behind win on court three. After trailing 4-1, the Virginia duo rallied to force a tiebreak, claiming the tiebreak 7-6 (6) to put UVA on top in the match.

In singles play, Johanson made quick work of her match on court one. The No. 43 player nationally, Johanson defeated No. 81 Anna Rogers 6-3, 6-0 to extend the Virginia lead.

NC State got on the board with a win on court two, before Gullickson and Radosavljevic would lock up the win with their wins on courts four and five, respectively. Gullickson defeated Wiktorin 6-4, 6-2, before Radosavljevic won over Amanda Rebol 6-4, 7-5.

The two remaining matches split with NC State winning in a super tiebreak on court six, while Mercer won in a super tiebreak on court three. Mercer defeated Taylor Bridges 7-6 (5), 4-6, 1-0 (7) for the final margin of victory.
