Virginia men’s tennis sophomore Carl Soderlund (Stockholm, Sweden) and junior Aswin Lizen (Douglas, Isle of Man) have been named to 2018 All-ACC Academic Team, in honors announced Monday (June 25) by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Söderlund played No. 1 singles this season for the Cavaliers, posting an 11-5 record on the top court. The All-ACC first-team honoree has been ranked as high as No. 23 in singles this season. This is his second All-ACC academic honor as he also earned the accolade his freshman season.
Lizen had the highest win tally for the Cavaliers this season, posting a 30-7 record in singles. Ranked as high as No. 10 in singles this year, Lizen went 12-1 in singles in the fall and opened the spring winning his first eight singles matches to start the year, 20-1. Lizen was the ITA Atlantic Regional Singles champion and advanced to the Round of 16 at the Oracle ITA Fall National Championships. Lizen, a member of the All-ACC second team, was named the recipient of the UVA men’s tennis’ 2018 Norton Pritchett Memorial Award. This is his first all-conference academic accolade.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
