The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving team had 17 student-athletes named to the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America on Wednesday (June 27). The Cavaliers had 10 females and seven males earn the academic honor for their performance in the pool and in the classroom.
Seniors Caitlin Cooper (Atlanta, Ga.), Corey Johnson (Ambler, Pa.), Jennifer Marrkand (Westford, Mass.) and Laine Reed (Austin, Texas), junior Vivian Tafuto (Hummelstown, Pa.), sophomore Sydney Dusel (Naperville, Ill.), and freshmen Paige Madden (Mobile, Ala.), Anna Pang (London) and Emma Seiberlich (Audubon, Pa.) represented the women’s team with a first-team selection, while junior Rachel Politi (Bexley, Ohio) received honorable mention.
On the men’s side, senior Luke Georgiadis (Jacksonville, Fla.), redshirt junior Brendan Casey (Santa Monica, Calif.), junior Alex Albracht (Mission Hills, Kan.), and sophomores Ryan Baker (Arlington, Va.), Ted Schubert (Ashland, Va.) and Bryce Shelton (Vienna, Va.) captured first-team honors. Senior Omer Tara (Istanbul, Turkey) was named as an honorable mention honoree.
To be selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable Mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a “B” time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets.
