Virginia Women’s Lacrosse Earns IWLCA Academic Honors
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Seniors Daniela Kelly (Rumson, N.J.) and Rachel Vander Kolk (Severna Park, Md.), along with the Virginia women’s lacrosse team, were recognized by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) on Monday (July 23) as earning academic honors for the 2018 season.
Kelly and Vander Kolk were among 462 student-athletes from 105 different institutions on the 2018 IWLCA Zag Sports Division I Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
Kelly appeared in 18 games with four starts at midfield. She scored six goals, with multiple goals in two contests. Kelly hit the game-winner against Syracuse. She graduated from UVA in May with a degree in media studies.
Vander Kolk played all 20 games in goal. She held opponents to single digits in nine games and recorded double digit saves in seven contests. She totaled 127 saves and 43 ground balls, including a season-high 14 saves against Stanford in NCAA tournament. She graduated in May with a degree in aerospace engineering.
Virginia was also recognized as an IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad. UVA is among 339 schools to earn the honor for the 2017-18 academic year.
