Hoos Got Trophies

Our favorite blog header is back! This week, we have a pair of Hoos hoisting runner-up trophies, but both are pretty significant accomplishments. First, congratulations to #UVAWTEN rising senior Meghan Kelley who turned in a solid performance at the ITF 15k in Evansville, Ind., over the weekend. Kelley advanced to the finals in doubles, taking a runner-up finish at the tournament.

Former #UVAMTEN player J.C. Aragone also had a runner-up finish in doubles this week, partnering with Liam Broady to advance to the finals of the $100K Granby Challenger. It was his first-ever trip to the finals at a Challenger. Aragone also advanced to the Round of 16 in singles, pushing his singles ranking up to a career-best No. 270.

Though there wasn’t any hardware to be hoisted, Thai-Son Kwiatkowski had the biggest win of the week. Kwiatkowski won two qualifying matches at the Citi Open to earn a spot in the main draw, his first time qualifying for an ATP event. Kwiatkowski will be taking on James Duckworth in the first round of the ATP Tournament whose field includes Andy Murray, Alexander Zverev, John Isner and Kevin Anderson. World Cup

USA Field Hockey’s run at the Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup came to an end on Sunday with a 1-1 draw against India. Both Michelle and Tara Vittese were in the starting line-ups for all three matches of pool play. This was Michelle’s second world cup while Tara was playing in her first major international competition.
