Jonesborough, Tenn. – The Virginia men’s golf team is in 11th place after the opening round of play at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. The Cavaliers shot 1-over 289 while host school East Tennessee State grabbed the opening round lead by firing 18-under 270.
UVA was led by junior Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.). He posted an opening-round score of 4-under 68 and is in 13th place. Senior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) is in 22nd place at 70 while sophomore WeiWei Gao (Cebu City, Philippines) is 51st at 74.
Freshmen Jack Montague (Makakin-Sabot, Va.) and David Morgan (Naples, Fla.) are tied for 71st place at 77. Sophomore Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.), who is competing as an individual, is in 31st place after posting a score of 71.
