Charlottesville, Va. – The Virginia men’s golf team wraps up its fall season this weekend at the 13th annual Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate in Alpharetta. The 54-hole event begins on Friday, Oct. 19, and continues with round two Saturday morning and concludes with the final round Sunday. The tournament will take place on the Lakeside Course (par 72, 7,017 yards).
For the first 10 years of its existence, the tournament was called the United States Collegiate Championship.
The field for this year’s tournament includes Alabama, Clemson, Duke, East Tennessee State, Florida State, Georgia Tech, New Mexico, Stanford, TCU, Texas A&M, UCLA, USC and Wake Forest.
Virginia’s lineup will include senior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.), junior Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.), sophomores Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.) and WeiWei Gao (Cebu, Philippines) and freshman David Morgan (Naples, Fla.).
Last season UVA finished eighth overall as Walsh and Massie tied for 12th place. In 2017, Jimmy Stanger was the co-medalist at 9-under 207 and Derek Bard won the individual title in 2014 with a record-setting 15-under 201 and shared the championship in 2015.
