CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete at the ACC Championships on Friday (Oct. 26) at Franklin Park in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The women’s 6k race will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the No. 14 Virginia men competing in the 8k race at 11 a.m.

Friday’s meet will signify the men’s and women’s cross country match between Virginia and Virginia Tech, sponsored by Virginia529, the official college savings plan of University of Virginia Athletics. There is also a potential of two points, one for the men’s race and one for the women’s race, in the Commonwealth Clash, the point rivalry series between University of Virginia and Virginia Tech and presented by Virginia529. The Women’s Field
• The Cavaliers will compete against four conference schools ranked nationally inside the top 25, battling No. 12 NC State, No. 18 Notre Dame, No. 22 Georgia Tech and No. 25 Syracuse.
• NC State is the two-time defending conference champion and preseason favorite for the meet.
The Men’s Field
• The Cavaliers will look to upset Syracuse and stop the Orange from securing its sixth consecutive ACC title.
• The Orange enter as the top seed at No. 10, followed by No. 14 Virginia and No. 15 Notre Dame.
The Season
• The Cavalier men’s team enters the conference championships after capturing a first-place finish at the Penn State National Open. Virginia had all five of its scoring runners finish in the top 25 at the meet, with Brent Demarest (Charleston, S.C.), Ari Klau (West Harford, Conn.) and AJ Ernst (Marblehead, Mass.) earning top 10 finishes.
• The women’s team was led by Abbey Green (Bethesda, Md.). Green captured her second top-five finish this season, placing fourth at Penn State. She was named the ACC Freshman of the Week for the second time this season with the performance.
• The Cavaliers previewed the championships course at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown. The men’s team placed fourth at the meet, with Demarest again breaking the top 10 at the meet with a seventh-place finish. The women’s team finished eighth. Green recorded the third-fastest run of the day, placing first among ACC competitors at the meet.
Last Year’s Championships
• The Virginia men’s team finished fourth at last year’s championships, Demarest was the second-fastest runner on the course, recording the team’s best individual finish at the ACC Championships since 2010.
• The women’s team finished eighth, with Hannah Moran (Salem, Va.) and Kiera Bothwell (Springfield, Va.) returning from last year’s squad.
