CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Virginia women’s cross country team captured a ninth-place finish at the ACC Championships on Friday (Oct. 26) at Franklin Park in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The Cavaliers were led by freshman Abbey Green (Bethesda, Md.), who paced the team with a top-10 finish and All-ACC honors at the meet.
Virginia recorded a score of 230 for the ninth-place finish. NC State secured its third consecutive ACC title with 67 points, edging Notre Dame who recorded a score of 68. Syracuse finished third with 83 points.
“Today was not the result I was looking for,” head women’s cross country coach Megan LaVoie said. “I do not feel as though we raced up to our potential. Our youth and inexperience really showed during the race. We have two weeks before our regional meet so we need to just work hard over the next week or so.”
Green captured a ninth-place finish with a time of 20:42.4, pacing UVA in the 6k race. She was followed by freshman Emma Wolcott (Leesburg, Va.), who finished 40th with a time of 21:28.0. Sophomore Kiera Bothwell (Springfield, Va.) and freshman Helena Lindsay (Yokohama, Japan) placed 46th and 55th, respectively. Bothwell recorded a time of 21:35.4, while Lindsay captured a time of 21:48.9. Sophomore Madelin Rennyson (Lynchburg, Va.) rounded out the team’s top five, finishing 89th with a time of 22:17.1.
