Virginia Closes 2018 Season at Boston College

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia (8-19, 4-13 ACC) volleyball plays its final match of the 2018 season on Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. at Boston College (14-14, 4-12 ACC).
The Cavaliers and Eagles are meeting for the second time this season after Virginia claimed a thrilling 3-2 victory in the first meeting. The Hoos piled up 19 blocks in the victory in Charlottesville, led by 13 from freshman Milla Ciprian (St. John’s, Fla.).

• Virginia and Boston College meet for the 23rd time overall and the second time this season.
• Virginia holds an 18-4 mark in the series after earning a 3-2 victory in Charlottesville earlier this season.
• The Cavaliers racked up 19 blocks against the Eagles, led by Ciprian’s 13.
• Sarah Billiard (Matthews, N.C.) knocked down a career-high 24 kills and hit .373 in the first meeting.
CLUTCH CIPRIAN
• First-year middle blocker Milla Ciprian etched her name in the record books against Boston College. Her 13 blocks (3 solo, 10 assist) were the third most by a single player in Virginia history.
•The massive total is also the second most by a first year, dating to 1989 when Kara Warner had 22 blocks against West Virginia.
• With the Cavaliers facing match point at 14-13 in the fifth, Ciprian hammered home a slide to even the score. The next play she recorded her 13th block of the night to give Virginia a 15-14 lead as part of a 3-0 run to earn the victory.
SCOUTING BC
• The Eagles enter Wednesday’s match off a 3-2 win over Virginia Tech on Friday (Nov. 16).
• Clare Naughton and Cat Balido co-lead the Eagles with 2.47 kills per set. Naughton had 16 kills and Balido 13 in the first meeting with Virginia.
• Makenzie Morrison leads BC with 372 digs, averaging 3.61 per set.
