Postgame Notes – Dayton | Boxscore

NASSAU, BAHAMAS. – De’Andre Hunter (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored 23 points to lead No. 4 Virginia (5-0) to a 66-59 win over Dayton (4-1) on Thursday. The Cavaliers advance to the Battle 4 Atlantis final against Wisconsin at 2 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 23).
 
Hunter was one of three Cavaliers in double figures. Ty Jerome (New Rochelle, N.Y.) had 15 points and Kyle Guy (Indianapolis, Ind.) added 14 points. Hunter and Braxton Key (Charlotte, N.C.) led the Cavaliers with six boards apiece. Kihei Clark (Woodland Hills, Calif.) added nine points and five rebounds.
 
UVA shot 42.9 percent from the field, while Dayton shot 54.3 percent. The Cavaliers had the advantage in points off turnovers, 15-9, and second chance points, 20-16.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dayton opened the contest with a 7-0 run before a three by Guy put the Cavaliers on the board. UVA trailed until 6-0 run that included back-to-back layups by Hunter put the Cavaliers ahead 20-17. Virginia took the lead into the half, 27-22. Dayton cut it to three twice out of the break, but each time UVA answered. The lead was back down to four when Hunter hit a three then Jerome and Clark converted free throws to secure the game.

De’Andre Hunter had a season-high 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including going 6-for-6 on free throws. Hunter grabbed six rebounds to tie for the team lead, five of which were offensive boards.
