BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia (7-5, 4-4 ACC) fell 34-31 to Virginia Tech (5-6, 4-4 ACC) in overtime on Friday evening in the Commonwealth Clash at Lane Stadium.
 
Bryce Perkins (Queen Creek, Ariz.) had 259 yard passing and 112 yards rushing on the night. Joe Reed (Charlotte Court House, Va.) had four receptions for 119 yards with two touchdowns, his first career 100-yard receiving game.
 
UVA finished with 423 yards of total offense, to 453 for Virginia Tech. The Cavaliers picked off the Hokies twice, but turned it over with three fumbles recovered by VT.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Virginia trailed 14-0 at the half, but fought back with two touchdowns in the third quarter to cut the Virginia Tech lead to 17-14. Virginia Tech scored a touchdown to begin the fourth quarter. UVA responded with a 12-yard Jordan Ellis (Suwanee, Ga.) rush for a touchdown, then took the lead on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Perkins to Hasise Dubois (Irvington, N.J.). UVA made it 31-24 with a field goal with 2:41 to play. Virginia Tech tied the game to send it to overtime. The Hokies kicked a field goal first, and UVA was driving before a fumble recovered by Virginia Tech ended the game.

• With a 29-yard touchdown pass and a 75-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, UVA has 18 touchdowns this season of 20-yards or more and 10 of 35 yards or more.
• CB Tim Harris recorded his third career interception and his first since the 2015 Virginia Tech game. The 62-yard return was a career high.
• WR Joe Reed’s 29-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter gives the junior a touchdown catch in three-straight games.
• With 259 passing yards and 112 rushing yards, QB Bryce Perkins has set the UVA single-season record for total yards, passing Kurt Benkert (3,144) who set the record last season. Perkins now has 3,314 yards of total offense.
• With three passing touchdowns, Perkins broke UVA’s single-season record for total touchdowns responsible for with 31. Bill Dudley (1941), Shawn Moore (1990) and Matt Schaub (2003) all shared the previous record with 29.
