Virginia falls to 16-12, 9-6 ACC. Louisville improves to 28-2, 14-1 ACC
Lauren Moses led the team with 10 points, also grabbing nine rebounds
Jocelyn Willoughby had 11 rebounds, her fourth double-digit rebounding game of the year
J’Kyra Brown hit a three-pointer with 2:00 left in the game, extending her streak of consecutive games with at least one three-pointer to 22 games.
The 39 points was the lowest point total of the year for the Cavaliers. The previous low was 41 in the first meeting of the year against Louisville. Louisville’s 51 points was its second-lowest total of the year, eclipsed only by the 49 they scored in the loss to Florida State
Virginia held a 9-7 lead with 5:37 remaining in the first quarter.
Virginia started the game 4-of-5 shooting, finishing the first quarter 5-of-9, then went 2-of-13 in the second quarter and 3-of-13 in the third, with all three makes coming in the final 4:08 of the period.
The Cavaliers ended the first quarter on a 3:13 scoring drought. Virginia did not hit a field goal in the final 6:24 of the first half and did not score for the final 4:59. The Cavaliers hit their first field goal of the second half 5:52 into the period
Louisville went on an 8-2 run to start the third quarter, but then did not hit a field goal for a span of 6:02
Louisville scored 16 of their 26 first-half points off turnovers.
Virginia held a 37-33 rebounding edge
The Cavaliers faced a ranked opponent for the fourth time in the last six games after facing No. 5 Notre Dame last Thursday (Feb. 15), playing at then-No. 12 Florida State on Feb. 8 and hosting Louisville at John Paul Jones Arena on Feb. 1.
Virginia closes out the regular season on Sunday, February 25, with a 3 p.m. game at Wake Forest (12-15, 4-10 ACC) before heading to the conference championship. The 2018 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament is being held Feb. 28-Mar. 4 at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C.
